Small Business Care Plans

Small business website care plans: everything handled, £59/month.

Monthly updates, backups, security, uptime monitoring, and content edits. Priority support when something breaks. Any platform (WordPress, Shopify, static, headless), any size. No lock-in.

Why small businesses need website care plans

Websites are not "set and forget." Plugins release security patches every few weeks. Server software gets updated. SSL certificates expire. Payment gateways change their integration requirements. Contact forms silently stop working when an email provider changes their DKIM policy. And every one of those things becomes a problem the first time you notice, which is usually the day a customer tries to buy something and cannot.

Our small business website care plans exist so that none of that lands on you. We monitor, patch, back up, restore, and fix. You get on with running the business. When something needs your attention (rare) we tell you what needs deciding and why. When something needs fixing (more often) we fix it and mention it in the monthly report.

  • Security scanning, firewall management, and hack recovery (recovery included Care Plus and above, discounted on Care).
  • Updates to WordPress core, all plugins, and any custom code we manage for you.
  • Content updates (menu changes, price updates, opening hours, blog posts, staff bios) up to the tier's monthly hours allowance.
  • Support via email and WhatsApp during UK business hours.
  • Reports monthly summarising what got updated, uptime percentage, backup log, and any recommendations.
What is NOT included: major redesign or rebuild work (quoted separately as web design), SEO retainer work (quoted separately as SEO growth), paid ad management, custom development beyond bug fixes, e-commerce feature additions, or new website builds. Care plans cover the ongoing maintenance of the site as-is; anything new goes on a separate quote.

The maths: care plan vs DIY vs freelance-per-hour

Small business website management costs compared (annual)

Care Plus plan (annual)£1,548
Alternative: your time (2hrs/wk @ £50/hr owner rate)£5,200
Alternative: freelance-per-hour (24hrs/yr @ £80/hr)£1,920
Alternative: nothing (until site gets hacked)£3,000+ recovery + downtime lost sales
Effective cost of Care PlusCheapest genuine option

The nothing option is what most small businesses choose. It works right up until it does not. The average small business site cleanup after a hack (per Sucuri industry data) costs £3,000-£5,000 in recovery work plus a full week of downtime while the site is quarantined. That is roughly 2 years of Care Plus for a single incident.

Different platform, different care approach

  • WordPress: the largest care workload because of plugin frequency. See dedicated WordPress care plan page for platform-specific detail.
  • Shopify: platform handles security and updates. Care plan work here is app management, theme updates, order flow monitoring, and content edits.
  • Static HTML sites (see static websites): minimal update workload. Care plans here are mostly backups, uptime, and content edits.
  • Ecommerce (WooCommerce, custom): care work often heavier because of payment gateway management, checkout flow monitoring, and product catalogue updates. See ecommerce care plans.

What happens when something breaks

The care plan tier determines response time (48hr / 24hr / 4hr). What actually happens when you report an issue:

  • Acknowledged within response time with an initial assessment: what we think is wrong, how bad, and estimated fix time.
  • Investigated to find the root cause. For most issues (plugin conflict, hosting glitch, form failure) resolution is under 4 hours from acknowledgement.
  • Fixed with a note in the monthly report on what happened, what we did, and how to prevent recurrence.
  • Escalated to owner if the fix requires a decision (paid plugin upgrade, hosting tier change, third-party integration migration). We recommend a course of action, you approve, we execute.

Common questions

Do I need a care plan?

If your site runs on WordPress, Shopify, or has plugins/third-party integrations, yes. Pure static sites benefit from backups and monitoring but do not strictly need updates.

What is the cheapest care plan?

Care at £59/month covers essential monthly updates, weekly backups, uptime monitoring, and 30 minutes of content updates. Right for small sites with rare changes.

Can you manage a website you did not build?

Yes. About a third of care plan clients came with existing sites. Technical takeover handled in onboarding at no extra fee.

Is there a minimum contract?

No lock-in. 14 days notice to cancel or downgrade. Most clients stay for years but no obligation.

What if my site gets hacked?

Recovery included on Care Plus and Care Pro. 50% discount on Care tier. Weekly backups mean recovery is a restore, not a rebuild. See hacked website repair for the one-off option.
