Hand-coded website design for UK businesses.
Fast, custom, built to last. No page builders, no plugin bloat, no monthly licence creep. Delivered in 5 to 21 days from £19.
What hand-coded means (and what it is not)
Hand-coded website design means every line of HTML, CSS and JavaScript that runs on your site was written directly by our team, not generated by a page builder, template theme, or drag-and-drop editor. The output is a clean site that loads in 1 to 2 seconds, passes Core Web Vitals without special effort, and has no plugin dependency chain waiting to break at 3am on a Sunday.
It is not a WordPress site with a pretty theme installed. It is not Wix, Squarespace, or any hosted builder. It is not a template you can drag boxes around on. If you want that, we can build it for you but we would rather point you at a specialist. Our sweet spot is custom website development in the UK for small businesses who care about speed, SEO, and not having to think about their website every week.
Why builders slow sites down
Page builders (Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder, WPBakery) are optimised for one thing: making it easy for anyone to drag boxes around and see immediate visual results. That is a real skill and it serves a real market. It is not the same as optimising for speed.
Every page a builder outputs is wrapped in layers of generic HTML, CSS classes it might use later, JavaScript for the editor interface, and third-party scripts each plugin loads independently. A single builder-generated page ships between 800 KB and 3 MB of code before you add a single image. A hand-coded page ships 40 to 80 KB. That is a 10 to 30 times difference on the wire, and it decides whether your site loads in 1.4 seconds or 6 on mobile 4G.
Google measures this difference and it directly affects rankings. Users measure it with the back button. If you have ever wondered why the "beautiful theme" you paid £69 for feels sluggish compared to a big brand site, the answer is almost always payload weight, not design.

Our build process, step by step
- Free 30-minute call A conversation, not a sales pitch. We ask what your business does, what the site needs to do, and what your budget looks like. If we are a fit, we send a fixed quote within 24 hours. If we are not, we tell you.
- Brief and asset collection You send us your brand assets (logo, colours, fonts if you have them), rough content, and any reference sites you like. If content is not written yet, we can help scope that separately or point you at a copywriter we trust.
- Design and build in one We do not do a separate "design phase" with static mockups you approve and then wait weeks to see coded. We design in the browser, so what you see at review is what you get at launch. Faster feedback loop, no surprises.
- Review and revisions You get a staging URL. You send us feedback in one document (not 40 emails). We iterate. Two rounds included; more is fine, quoted per hour.
- Launch We deploy to your hosting, point the domain, run through a launch checklist (SSL, redirects if replacing an old site, forms tested, analytics firing, sitemap submitted to Google). You get a launch email confirming everything is live and working.
- 30-day post-launch support + optional care plan Any bug fixes or small tweaks in the first 30 days are free. After that, most clients move onto a monthly website care plan for ongoing updates, backups, and small edits.
How long it takes
Timelines vary by scope. Averages from real client work over the past 18 months:
- Landing page: 5 to 7 days from brief in hand to live URL
- Static brochure site (3 to 6 pages): 7 to 12 days
- Small business site (3 to 5 pages): 10 to 14 days. See scope, tier pricing, and included features.
- Business site with blog and CMS (5 to 8 pages): 14 to 18 days
- E-commerce (Stripe or local gateway, product catalogue up to ~50 SKUs): 18 to 21 days
- Premium custom build with bookings, multi-language, or headless CMS: scoped per project, typically 4 to 8 weeks
Local to South Wales? See our web design Newport page for city-specific pricing and industry examples. Tradesperson (plumber, electrician, builder, roofer)? See our dedicated web design for tradesmen page for lead-focused site anatomy and pricing.
The clock starts once we have your brief and brand assets. Delays are almost always waiting on content or feedback from your side, not on our end. We set expectations upfront and flag anything that slips before it becomes a problem.

Common questions
What does hand-coded actually mean?
Every line of HTML, CSS and JavaScript is written by our team directly rather than generated by a builder. Result: cleaner code, faster load times, no plugin dependency chain.
Can I edit the site myself after launch?
Text content, yes. Small business builds include a lightweight CMS on the pages you will actually update. Structural changes need us. Most owners never touch design after launch, so the trade-off is theoretical.
How long does a website build take?
5 days for a landing page, 10 to 14 days for a small business site, up to 21 days for e-commerce. The clock starts when we have your brief and brand assets in hand.
Do you handle hosting?
Optional. Most clients keep their existing hosting. If you want us to host, quoted separately. What we do not do is force-bundle hosting into the build fee.
What if I already have a website?
See our full website redesign services page for the ranking-preservation process: URL mapping, 301 redirect planning, staging environment testing, and 4-week post-launch Search Console monitoring.
